LeClair wins trial for client accused of violating DV protection order
Mitch LeClair won a trial July 10, 2026, in Clark County District Court for a client charged with violating a domestic violence protection order.
Jurors deliberated approximately 30 minutes before returning a not-guilty verdict.
The protection order was filed in 2025 by an ex-girlfriend. In January, the ex-girlfriend reported that the client had called and she did not answer the phone. She also claimed that he had sent her friend requests through a social media app. She provided screenshots of a missed call and friend request.
A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy contacted the client using the number provided by the ex-girlfriend. The client denied calling his ex or sending her friend requests.
At trial, LeClair highlighted the lack of evidence connecting his client to the alleged attempted contacts. On cross-examination, the deputy testified that he did not seek warrants or subpoenas related to any telephone or computer device. The ex-girlfriend testified to the defendant immediately leaving a bar after seeing her at the establishment, about two weeks before the alleged attempted contacts began.
LeClair's client took the stand in his own defense. He testified to discovering, weeks after the case arose, that one alleged attempted contact was an accidental call that came from his Apple Watch. The defendant also claimed on the witness stand that he had not used Snapchat, nor had he tried to contact his ex-girlfriend in other ways, after Clark County Superior Court put in place the underlying domestic violence protection order last fall.
Violating a protection order, a gross misdemeanor, carries a penalty of up to one year in jail.
