Meyer wins another assault trial

The alleged victim testified his husband had been drinking and playing loud music and that upset his father, who assaulted him when he returned from work.

The client’s son-in-law, however, testified he hadn’t been drinking or playing music, and his father-in-law shoved him for no reason and that started a fight during which his father-in-law punched his husband several times.

Meyer’s client testified his son and his son-in-law were physically fighting, and he stepped in to break it up. He said his son fell and hit his head, causing visible injuries that were noted by officers from the Vancouver Police Department who responded to the 911 call.

During closing arguments, Meyer emphasized to jurors that each of the three people who were there told vastly different stories of what happened. That meant the state couldn’t meet the burden of proving its case beyond a reasonable doubt, he said.
