Attorney Jeffrey D. Barrar started Vancouver Defenders in 2001...
Attorney Jeffrey D. Barrar started Vancouver Defenders in 2001 and grew the practice into the largest criminal defense firm in Southwest Washington.
Barrar retired during the pandemic and turned the firm over to longtime managing partner Christie Emrich. Barrar was honored in 2024 by the Clark County Bar Association with its Lifetime Achievement Award.
The firm has public contracts to represent indigent defendants in felony and misdemeanor cases. Attorneys also represent privately retained clients.
Attorneys at the firm have a wealth of experience defending all types of crimes, including but not limited to DUI, hit-and-run, assault, criminal trespass, malicious mischief, domestic violence, identity theft, robbery, harassment, vehicular homicide, child molestation, rape and murder. Attorneys Neil Anderson and Katie Kauffman have each been honored as Trial Attorney of the Year by the Clark County Bar Association.
The firm employs four investigators who help attorneys aggressively pursue potential pre-trial issues, such as whether an officer had probable cause to make an arrest, whether the state has sufficient evidence to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt at trial and whether there are potential witnesses who were not interviewed by police.
